Hawaii Travel

Ten days ago, Hawaii pushed back its full reopening, extending the mandatory 14-day quarantine out through at least September 1st.

The official reason given was pretty simple: Cases are rising on the mainland, and although ideas have been floated, there’s no surefire way to ensure tourists don’t bring COVID-19 with them to the islands. So, for now, Hawaii is playing it safe.

But recent news reports have shed light on another potential reason: Many of the visitors already in Hawaii aren’t behaving themselves.

Nearly 200 People Have Been Arrested for Violating Quarantine

Despite the 14-day quarantine deterring the majority of travelers, some have still made their way to the islands the numbers reported over the last couple weeks have hovered around 600-700 people a day. Those arriving are supposed to stay put for two weeks, avoiding public places altogether, even if wearing a mask and social distancing.
